Hello guys, I am a complete n00b at this.
I brought a PSP Classic from eBay with CFW 3.52 already installed. Happy days. I wanna be able to play games like Fifa 2009 and other new games.
I've juist tried to sort out the 3.90 update but failed.
(1) Can I upgrade direct to 5.00 from 3.52?
(2) Can i do the update by connecting my PSP to my computer or does my PSP have to be online?
(3) what is kernel? (as in Game Folder kernel?)
(4) I cant see no recovery menu!!
(5) Sort my life out.

(1) Yes, assuming its 3.52 M33-4 it wont work on lower custom firmwares or any official firmware.
(2) Yes, put the contents of the MS0 folder in the root of the memory stick.
(3) basically the firmware on the PSP. 3.52-M33 can run homebrew for FW 1.50 and FW 3.52. The updater can only run on the 3.52 kernel.
(4) Turn on the PSP, the hold the power switch for 10 seconds until the PSP turns off completely. The while holding the R-trigger button, turn on the PSP.
In the recovery menu, go to configuration menu and change the Game Folder Kernel setting.

can i change directly from normal 5.01 to this on a slim?
No. You need to have a previous custom firmware version. And slim psp's are programmed differently. I don't believe that there is aby custom firmware for slim psp's.
