Wupideedoo, you said that MKV sucks b/c it is an open source project. That is an incorrect statement. If it sucks, it sucks for the reasons you mentioned, there is a lot of open source software that is quite awesome out there, being open source does not automatically mean something sucks.

Xbox 360 and PS3 play DivX and AVI files. Just copy to your flash drive or burn them to CD in data format. I don't know if renaming MKV-AVI will degrade the movie or not. Never dl MKV before but this looks popular and not too big of a dl.

No, renaming MKV to AVI will NOT work since the container format is different. If the player will not support MKV it will not. Renaming AVI to something else MIGHT work if the player ignores file extensions and reads the file header to see what kind of file it is. If the player supports the AVI container (which is a shitty container) it will then play the file. Now go to Wikipedia and read up on codecs, containers etc because you're all fucking ignoramuses (not you who actually know their shit, that is)

Using Win XP MCE and Transcode 360 I do it all the time on my 360. A .mkv IS an .avi container, Have you actually just tried renaming a .mkv to an avi and tried it!?

Not sure if this has been resolved, but if PS3/Xbox360 owners are having trouble with files I recommend using TVersity. You can choose to stream or to copy to your console, and the program transcodes while it's streaming/copying.
