Agent Steel Origin: Los Angeles, CA, USA Genres: Thrash Metal AGENT STEEL - UNSTOPPABLE FORCE (Music For Nations) (Reviewed by Mike Exley, Metal Forces No.21, 1986) This is AGENT STEEL's second LP and features the line-up of Cyriis/Garcia/Versailles/Profus/Zaputil recently featured in the pages of MF. A second album is always a vital release that either makes or breaks a band, take METALLICA for example. It must show a significiant progression and maturity. I liked AGENT STEEL's debut "Skeptics Apocalypse" but listening to this new album it shows how meagre that debut was. It lacked track individuality, had a weak production and a tendency to be all fast all the time. In contrast "Unstoppable Force" is a revelation of different moods. A new maturity and a killer from Dan Johnson has transformed AGENT STEEL from that all too popular speed metal tag to a very powerful heavy metal band check out "Rages" and "Nothing Left" and you'll see what I mean. Also beware of the power of the albums two best tracks, "Unstoppable Force" and the instrumental "Day Of Guyana" - if you like to flex your neck muscles, do so to these two and you won't go far wrong! Dan Johnson has taken the many talents of AGENT STEEL and put them in a totally different league to the "Skeptics" debut - everything, bass, guitar, drums and the vocals of John Cyriis seem so much more dynamic. John's voice subtleties really leaping out at you. The more subtle "Chose To Stay", "Still Searching" and the epic "Travellers" show the new maturity that AGENT STEEL have amassed - the songs are so much more important than speed. This is a mega release which should make AGENT STEEL a household name - if you think the mark is a bit high listen to it nevertheless, you won't be disappointed!
