We're proud

The demonstrations against the Swedish Lex Orwell law today was a success!

In Stockholm and Malmö almost 2000 people altogether partied, demonstrated and showed their feelings about the remarkably stasi-alike new law.

We're proud of being a part of this. Brokep talked at the rally in Malmö and we're very happy to be able to promote important things as these. Thank you all for helping spreading the message about the demonstration and for the future help we know we'll get when we need to get important messages out like this. Thanks, from the bottom of our hearts.

I truly hope it will come to the point where they have to change the law, first i heard about the new law, i thought it was a prank, or just a little fooling around, but, when i read the news, i was breath less, but i am 100% with you Sweden, the danish pirates are supporting you all 100%!

Good luck up there, may the sun stroke you true the dark clouds soon again!

Here’s an english translation. I ran it through google translate and fixed it up to the best of my ability. I couldn’t decipher some of the words, but they still make sense when in context.

Since I am involved in The Pirate Bay, I have seen from the front-row how Sweden has given in to pressure from foreign powers. With that in mind - and with the knowledge of the agreement, which was written in April 2007 between Sweden and the United States on exchange of information relating to terrorism - we can not overlook the fact that the system will be used for other things than what is presented as they are today. It is not impossible that the U.S. will have direct access to FRA's övervakningsmaskineri. And even other European countries have shown interest in such cooperation! FRA-law in itself is already a disaster for privacy, especially given that it - technically - is not even particularly effective. It is therefore important that we do not see short-term in FRA-law. Ändamålsglidning is something that historically almost always been done with records in Sweden. We need to put our foot down, no matter what good intentions the politicians claim to have right now! The next government might want to expand their powers. Today, we can protect ourselves relatively easily with encryption and the like. Something that terrorists of course realized several years ago. But, for example, in England, it is now illegal for individuals not to issue their encryption key when the police ask for it. With only suspicion of a crime, you can then get up to five years in prison if you do not give it out. Even if they have actually forgotten their password! Is this perhaps the next legislative proposals in Sweden? FRA-law is unnecessary, ineffective, unwanted and last but not least, expensive. The government should listen to the people, as they can not replace us. However, we have the power to change the government.

The Pirateparty has the most support from young people. In this group the strongest support comes from men. It is obvious then that the Pirateparty needs to broaden the information to middleaged and elderly. Broad support is given if one can make these groups understand what is going on. I think that we have to explain the issues in pictures of opening physical letters and scanning with photocopiers for "forbidden words" like "surprice" and such and if found manually reading these private letters. Most people will probably avert then. Add to that automatic eavesdropping on private conversation in telephones and add the danger of a gradual shift of purpose. SHUDDER!
With such information to groups not reached by the information the law is bound to be cancelled.

We ought to concentrate on how to reach out with the information!

@ #5:
övervakningsmaskineri ~ literally "surveillance machinery".
ändamålsglidning ~ literally "purpose slip", i.e. you use your legal power for something it was not intended to be used for.

here in england, virgin broadband are sending letters to users warning them about using this site, they claim that because of file sharing sites, the film industry is losing money. I find this extremely insulting, the fact that Richard Branson is condoning this is the biggest insult of all. Virgin also own a record company, so in effect they think they'll lose money if they don't act. All this coming from a man i saw on cribs a few days ago bragging about how much cash he has. HE OWNS A FUCKING ISLAND!!!

This is getting disgusting. As always I am being harassed by these "Internet Law Enforcers" This new law gives these privacy invaders more rule to come and hack our networks looking for incriminating evidence. Once they hack your network have fun repairing the damage done. Rouge hackers had a hay-day on our systems when a "Internet Law Enforcer" tried to gather "evidence". Took us about two days to repair it all. Pisses me off. And don't even get me started on this terrorist bullshit. Just more excuses to invade our private lives. It's all connected. Speaking of this Virgin thing, why don't we come up with some documents explaining what most of us are about. If you know of one or wish to write one leave a message at our support TPB group. It would be nice to get this going even bigger. Alot of misinformed people out there. Time to set things straight.

I'm glad that the Swedish people are taking action against the FRA. It probably won't do any good, though, for a lot of reasons.

I wonder, when brokep and anakata run for Swedish PM under the Pirate Party, if they will turn TPB into a campaign website. Hmm...

@MisplacedFate1313

nah then it would require for them to go ashore. believe me i live in sweden.

Everyone, listen up, the EU is tomorow/today passing a new law forcing all ISPs to shut down people who they find are downloading/uploading things. The new law can be found here: http://www.laquadrature.net/wiki/Telecom-Package_Compromise-Amendments_ITRE-IMCO_7th-July I am not sure what we can do about this, but something needs to be done.
#29. Iron Horse - 07-07 2008
All I can say is that I am in awe of the owners of this site. They have balls and will fight for what they believe in. They stand up to authority in a way all of us deep down would like to, yet many don't have the guts. And I have benefited immensely from their efforts. Keep the faith!
#30. citr0n - 07-07 2008
FUCK FRA. THEY ARE JUST CREATING IT BECAUSE THEY ARE TO SUCKY ON DOING THER JOBS
#31. plaztic - 07-07 2008
[Furry]The fox: I haven't read it yet, but if it is like you say, then the ISP's will lose a great deal of customers/income. Since I think the main reason we get high speed broadband is to download movies and music (which quite often is (c) material). At least this is the case with the ppl I know. Sure online gaming is one other thing, but there's more a roundtrip thingy. Just my 2 cents ..
#32. [Furry]The fox - 07-07 2008
Plaztic: The ISPs doesnt control who they shut down, If they suspect someone is downloading they HAVE to shut that person down, And if anyone gets disconnected, its apparently illegal to go to another ISP and sign up for internet from that provider too.
#33. zichok - 07-07 2008
pirate god be with you, guys!
#34. [Furry]The fox - 07-07 2008
Well, it seems its over for us pirates, EU has just passed a new law which enables ISPs to ban anyone from using the Internet, if they suspect someone is downloading something illegal. If you are caught, and banned, it will be criminal for you to go to another ISP and ask for a account there. This new law also gives the power to the government to decide what applications can and cannot be used. So, there, its the end of us pirates.

Hi, Noble peers,
I'm a dedicated peer from Brazil, i'm the one who translated "steal this film 2" for portuguese. I admire a lot the work you guys do in favour of the free flow of the information and knowledge.

I'm here to ask a little help about a subjet that concern us, brazilian peers, but conmcerns also everyone involved in this struggle against control of information.

Right now, a law project about internet crimes named "projeto azeredo" is being voted in Brazilian congress. The law wants to block access to p2p share, control the avance of the wi-fi and obrigate the servers who give internet access to maintain an archive of the history of the users, and deliver it to the "competent autority". This project remember the darker ages of brazilian dictatorship.

So I'm asking you help to publicize this sickening law, use the high reachness of piratebay to help us in this fight that is yours also, call the attention of the public opinion to that. Two brazilian university teachers created a online petition against the law, If you could publicize the petition, it would be an enormous help:
http://www.petitiononline.com/veto2008/petition.htl

Sorry for this long message, and for my bad english, I hope you guys understand the gravity of the situation.
kindly,
Felipe

This is sickening. If that law gets repealed, I will make every effort to learn Swedish and MOVE to that country. i have been an immigrant to the United States from Colombia (the country in South America), trying to immigrate the legal way, dealing with the 10 or more restrictions they have impossed 30 years ago (you have to be here for this many years, have to prove to us several things, and STILL have to pay taxes so that the legal residents get huge healthcare and other benefits from what you've paid, all of this without you getting anything from federal aids... ETC ETC) for about 4 years. The news and the horrible secrecy to have unlawful actions against the people (which is NOT the constitution that those people living there are SO proud about) has me with the stomach upside down. What is worse, bush (AKA The Monkey) and his "administration" (assistants) signed the FISA and just created an extended program which allows to basically spy and search everyone, wether fully legal or illegal without reason, by all mediums: telephone, internet, postage mail, you namme it, they spy it, then they use "military force actions" (arrest you and interrogate you endlessly, then may execute you). I guess i could even start being trilingual from now on. For more info on the fisa, visit: http://arstechnica.com/articles/culture/fisa-compromise.ars
